Features

Everything the app can do, in one place. Search in your own words — the search understands more than one phrasing.

Reading

Bible reader

Open

Read the whole Bible chapter by chapter. The reader remembers where you were and continues from there.

How do I continue where I left off?

The home page shows a "Continue reading" button that opens the last chapter you read.

Bible translations

Open

Switch between translations in the reader: the Icelandic Bible, KJV, ESV, WEB and BSB.

Search

Search for a word, verse or reference ("John 3:16") — and your own stuff: comments, threads and chains. Search lives in the reader and the menu.

Audio narration

Have the chapter read aloud. Opens from the audio button in the reader and continues across chapters.

Verse of the day

Open

A new verse on the home page every day. Listen from the verse, share it as a card, or open it in the reader.

Study & notes

Lenses

Open

A lens is a set of highlights with its own colours — like highlighter pens for different themes. Pick a lens and mark verses in the reader.

How do I highlight a verse?

Choose an active lens (e.g. from the lens switcher in the reader), then tap a verse and pick a colour.

Can I have multiple lenses?

Yes — create as many as you like on the lenses page, each with its own themes and colours.

Shared lenses — reading together

Open

Share a lens with a friend and read together: they see your highlights appear in their Bible, and with edit access they can highlight into the same lens too.

Can my friend edit my lens?

Only if you grant them edit access when sharing — otherwise they can only view it.

How do I share a lens?

Open the lens on the lenses page and choose "Share lens" — you get a link to send.

Cross-translation highlights

The same highlight shows up in more than one translation at once — mark a verse in the Icelandic Bible and see it in the ESV too. Toggled in the reader menu.

Comments

Open

Write a note on any verse. All comments collect on one page and are searchable.

Threads

Open

Longer writing about a topic or passage — like small essays with verses woven in.

Chains

Open

Link verses together into a chain — your own cross-reference trail through the Bible, verse by verse.

Bookmarks

Open

Mark where you are or places you want to find again quickly.

Favourites

Open

Collect your favourite verses in one place with the heart in the reader.

Pinned verses

Open

Pin verses to the home page so they greet you every time you open the app.

Memorize

Open

Learn verses by heart with spaced-repetition practice — the app resurfaces a verse when it's due for review.

Community & sharing

Community & friends

Open

Add friends, see their reading in the feed, react, send messages, and invite more people in.

How do I add a friend?

On the community page you can send an invite link — whoever opens it gets connected to you.

Verse cards

Share a verse as a beautiful image card — pick a style and send it anywhere. Sharing lives on the verse menu and the verse of the day.

Habits & games

Streak

Read daily and your streak grows — the flame in the header shows where you stand. Grace days protect the streak when you miss a day.

What is a grace day?

A day that protects your streak even though you didn't read — it's used automatically when you miss a day.

Where do I see my streak?

Tap the flame at the top of the page — that opens your streak, heatmap and friends' streaks.

Reading plans

Open

Follow a plan through a book or the whole Bible at your own pace — progress tracks the chapters you finish, not a calendar.

What if I fall behind?

Nothing is lost — plans are based on completed chapters, so you just continue where you were.

My journey

Open

A map of your reading across the whole Bible — see which books and chapters you've read and what remains.

Your recap

Open

A wrap-up of your reading — stats, highlights and your reading personality, ready to share.

Games

Open

Daily Bible puzzles — word games, verse riddles, timelines, memory match and more. Share your result without spoiling the answer.

The app

Notifications & reminders

Get a daily reading reminder at the time that suits you. Turned on and off in settings.

How do I turn reminders off?

Open settings (the gear) and switch notifications off there.

Account & sync

Open

Sign in and everything of yours — lenses, notes, streak, progress — syncs across devices and is kept in the cloud. You can also export a backup file.

Do I lose anything if I switch phones?

No — sign in on the new device and everything comes down from the cloud.

Appearance & accessibility

Theme (light/dark), font, text size, reading width, dyslexia-friendly font, words of Jesus in red and more — all in settings.

Install & offline

Add SESIL to your home screen — it opens like an app and reading works offline once chapters have loaded.

Is SESIL in the App Store?

SESIL is a web app — no store download needed. "Add to Home Screen" in the browser gives the same experience.
